"Two young men steal from their parent's house like some second grade crooks. An early work by acclaimed filmmaker WES ANDERSON, obviously excited and influenced by an array of influences spanning from the FRENCH NEW WAVE, CINEMA VERITE and the first wave of American independent works headed by JOHN CASSAVETES.
The 1994 short BOTTLE ROCKET would then be developed into a full feature film a few years later, but the two works are very different, particularly in style. In fact, here ANDERSON does not appear to have found the distinctive voice that would win him his loyal fanbase with future films. It is quite priceless to see him, however, in his formative years. And while there's still a type of student film vibe about this short, there are also obvious signs of creativity both in narrative and approach, as well as a fresh charge and energy that makes BOTTLE ROCKET positively captivating.
Hinting a a future re-occurring collaboration, LUKE and OWEN WILSON also feature, and the latter contributed to the writing process."
