MATT'S CINEMA DIARY: December 14-20, 2015

Matt's personal experience at various cinematic screenings throughout the week. This week, screenings of DEAD SLOW AHEAD, STEVE JOBS, MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL and BRIDGE OF SPIES.

So far, this feature has proved to be relatively successful. Alas, I fear that this addition will be followed by silence, for at least one week, as I will be going to the UK to spend Christmas with my family and looking after my sick dog.

Once again, I was kept quite busy, and like last week was only attend four screenings. It's still half a miracle that I was able to squeeze them in, and risked being late for at least two of them. Nevertheless, the unusual thing you will find is that on the opening weekend of the new STAR WARS film, STAR WARS is not among them.

This is not because I am not interested in seeing. When the films were releleased theatrically in the nineties, and by that I mean the original trilogy, they were three of the first films I ever watched on the big screen. But when I consider the saga as a whole, it is terribly commercialized, and I guess I don't really consider myself a STAR WARS fan as such, because while I rate the first two films in the original series masterpieces, RETURN OF THE JEDI has its flaws. And the prequels...ugh. I mean I enjoyed the effects, and I guess THE REVENGE OF THE SITH is fine, but at the end of the day, what was the point in them but to make money.

I will watch it. Definitely. But I will let the others rush by me. Cinema always offers plenty of films for me to delve into. So, I'm not prejudiced against anything. Therefore, I always try to watch as much as possible, as I hope you guys will have noticed from this website, but also in particular from this feature. So, there's time for a meditative and slow documentary. And the new film by STEVE SPIELBERG. There's always something!
