STEVE JOBS by Danny Boyle @ Kino Evald (Prague, Czech Rep.), 15/12/2015, 14.:30

As a guy who has never, and I truly mean never bought anything manufactured by apple - not for any anti-consumerist idealism, their products just seem inconvenient to me - I was very excited about this film, because of two people in particular; DANNY BOYLE and MICHAEL FASSBENDER. Aside from THE BEACH, DANNY BOYLE has basically never done anything I didn't like. FASSBENDER on the other hand I consider to be one of the greatest actors of this generation, consistently delivering powerhouse performances in a great range of variety of characters and situations.

Nevertheless, my expectations were somewhat relatively average, because I have seen many biopics, and most are pretty similar. I was expecting the same range of cliches, but I had underestimated everything from the three act theatrical structure to many technical touches that enrich the story. STEVE JOBS is a film that stands out.

I attended the senior screening. The screening was surprisingly not well attended. Everytime I go to such screenings, I think about the time when I went to see THE INTERN at one of them and it was packed. THE INTERN is among the dullest films I have seen the whole year, but it possibly sits favourably with an audience at which it is partially targeted. Now, one of the things I like to do is examine the reason behind why some films just don't work with an older audience. It's easy for me to do so here. They must have been turned off by the technology that they probably do not understand.

Of course, that is a generalization, but it's fun and I can do it because I too don't understand it and can't use it. At the end of the day, it wasn't my interest in technology that got me to sit down in a screening room to watch STEVE JOBS, it was the hope to see a great story. And I walked off quite satisfied.
