5/1/2015 - Opening and closing film of IFFR 2015 announced
The International Film Festival Rotterdam has announced its opening and closing films for this year's edition, which will be the 44th.
On the 21st of January, the event will kick off with the International premiere of War Book, the political thriller by Tom Harper about a chilling war game between a group of government officials which reaches boiling point. The film also aims to expose the fragility of every day life and those who govern it. It stars Ben Chaplin, Phoebe Fox and Sophie Okonedo.
The closing film will be screened on the 31st of January, and it will be the Dutch premiere of A Most Violent Year by J.C. Chandor. This film revolves around an ambitious immigrant who fights to protect his business and family during the dangerous year in the city's history - 1981. It stars Oscar Isaak and Jessica Chastain.
On making the announcement, festival director Rudiger Wolfson commented that War Book "is a topical and relevant films that fits perfectly with the contemporary issues we are exploring and debating at the IFFR 2015". And on A Most Violent Year, he stated that it "is a beautiful film made by a hugely talented and ambitious auteur."
The 44th International Film Festival Rotterdam will run from the 21st of January to the 1st of February.
