#3 - This is not the first Woody Allen and Vittorio Storaro's paths have crossed

While Café Society may be the first time Storaro works as a cinematographer in a Woody Allen directed film, it is not the first time their names have appeared on the credits of the same film.

As Storaro himself reminded everyone, they were part of the episodic film New York Stories (1989) - in which he was cinematographer to Francis Ford Coppola, while Allen collaborated with Sven Nykvist and Nestor Almendros shot Martin Scorsese's. Storaro was also the cinematographer on Picking Up the Pieces by Alfonso Arau, in which Woody Allen played the lead role - though it's most likely both of them would love to forget that film ever happened.

"I've worked with the best cinematographers," Allen said, mentioning Gordon Willis and Sven Nykvist among others. "My paths have not crossed with Vittorio very often, but he was available and I was making a film and I asked him if he wanted to do it. And of course, he's one of the absolute great cinematography genius, so I had an opportunity to add another great cinematographer to the list of people I've worked with."
