"Oliver Stone is a filmmaker with a penchant for biopics, but despite hsi best intention at making a different kind of such film by telling the story of Macedonia's Alexander the Great, the humanisation of the figure of an ambitious and charismatic leader is nothing short of awkward and full of imperfections in its narrative and some truly awful dialogue. 

The resulting mess is so lukewarm and cold that not even the excitement of the battle scenes can make up for its epic length. What is worse is that even the aspects that might have otherwise worked, such as Rodrigo Prieto's excellent cinematography, seem pretentious and exaggerated. 

Alexander didn't live up to its expectations upon release, and today it is simply widely ignored and forgotten.
