"Army of Darkness is the third film in the Ash trilogy by Sam Raimi starring Bruce Campbell in the leading role. This film is a lot of fun from start to finish, not least of all because Sam and Ivan Raimi, who created the concept and wrote the screenplay, fully embrace the cult status appeal that the film had already revealed in Evil Dead 2. 

The story is just as crazy and surreal a mixture of horror, fantasy and action movie you could ever get, and of course it follows our leading hero - an everyman discount store employee who finds himself thrown in the Middle Ages with a chainsaw for an arm leading an army againsy an army of the dead. 

The visual approach is terrific, and the effects extremely creative and influential. Despite the film's excesses, it is inspired and constantly entertaining as well as full of surprises, humour and even genuine shocks. An ultimate tribute to B-movies of old, but one that should equal consensus among an arthouse and a blockbuster audience."
