"A wealthy American woman joins a relief worker and falls in love with him. Beyond Borders is sold as some type of humanitarian romance adventure drama. It promises to be spectacular, especially considering that it is directed by Martin Campbell. But fails on all its premises. 

What it stands for is as a confirmation of prejudicial thoughts about Hollywood humanitarianism. The initial contrast between the two archetypal leading character never evolves into a believable passionate love affair. 

The story itself is just not interesting. Any message it hopes to carry, if any, is lost in obnoxious self righteousness, dishonesty and downright arrogance.
