THE BOURNE SUPREMACY (2004) - ♦♦♦
Directed by - Paul Greengrass
Written by - Tony Gilroy (based on a novel by Robert Ludlum)
Starring - Matt Damon
"Jason Bourne is abruptly disturbed from his attempts at starting a normal and new life for himself, and seeks vengeance upon his former CIA employers, some of whom may have formed an allegiance with murderous Russians.
In a daring stylistic attempt, DOUG LIMAN, who had directed the previous and first outing of the franchise, is replaced by PAUL GREENGRASS. GREENGRASS brings to the table his distinctive type of raw and almost documentary-like style which starkly clashes and yet strangely enhances the spectacular nature of the action sequences and the excitement of the special effects. What this ultimately does is further distance the Bourne saga from the usual actioner, and gives it a whole new frantic coating of seriousness, which conveys the already more mature character depth of the leading spy figure, deadly and vulnerable due to his struggles with amnesia.
MATT DAMON returns as Jason Bourne, reprising a role that he had essentially made his with a solid turn in the previous film.
The real problem with the film comes from the constant tangling of the storyline, overwhelmed by its many twists and turns and unable to reach a balance that prevents it from being far too confusing."
