"This stylish horror film which marks the English language debut of Amenabár. It’s the story of Grace, a mother raising up two kids in a creepy and haunted mansion with her husband gone away to fight in World War II. Because the children have a condition in which they cannot be exposed to daylight, the lighting is a particularly remarkable aspect of the film in building a great suspenseful atmosphere. The production values from art direction to photography are also of high quality, as well as Kidman’s performance and the performances of the rest of the cast."
