"A San Francisco prostitute hoping to start a new life in the south seas, clashes with a religious reformer who has already converted the natives to Christianity and sees the woman as a threat. Casting Joan Crawford as Sadie Thompson was the best thing about this film; her style and personality fits the character completely. However, Milestone’s direction is often ridiculous as it is much too aware of itself and its self glorified camera movements that make the action feel artificial and the whole thing sloppy."
