"Based on the Pulitzer winning nover by Guthrie, this western is about a wagon train of pioneers making their way to Oregon, led by a Senator whose ambitious views clash with his less enthusiastic followers. Great performances and a couple of nice twists, though given the reputation of the primary source, the film is of pretty average standards and has an inconsistent pace."
