THE WOLF OF WALL STREET (2013) - ♦♦♦♦
Directed by - Martin Scorsese
Written by - Terence Winter (based on a book by Jordan Belfort)
Starring - Leonardo DiCaprio
"Based on the rise and fall of a real life Wall Street crook, Scorsese's film puts a modern twist on the tragicomedy of the American dream. Yet, he does so by allowing himself to thread on familiar grounds, in the coke fuelled fluid pace of his age definint Goodfellas.
Beginning from its narrative structure and right down to the camera movements, Marty lets loose a lot of the tricks he had almost sworn not to revisit since the mid-nineties, and the resultant Wolf of Wall Street stands as a triumphant and almost perfect self-celebratory film that almost never slips into self-parody. Through a certain graphic vividness, the film is full of satire and can almost be read as a downright crime comedy.
On top of that, Leonardo DiCaprio's performance ranks among his best - perhaps because it feels like an almost complete summation of all the different personalities he portrayed during the course of his filmmography."
